What started as 'one-man circus Hoetchatcha' in 1997 (!) quickly grew into an animation team that besides shows and parties for children in their own circus tent, also provided workshops and animations. In the early years the company took care of the entire children's entertainment at festivals such as Dranouter Folk, Labadoux, Manifiesta, Melkrock, ...
From that animation, the company grew more towards theater. With the performances 'Circus Hoetchàtchov' and 'August' the company played many family and school shows in Flemish and Dutch cultural centers.
Because inspirator Kristof Gouwy became a father, the company has become less nomadic. There was more emphasis on the construction of self-designed playground equipment (under the company 'Speelpleinbouwers'). But the street theater circuit continued to beckon, of course. The project 'De Werf' (The Yard) was born out of the construction of playground equipment, and involved the children in building an 80-meter-long play course.
Since 2022, cie Hoetchatcha offers the latest play project 'Larie en Apeschool', a project that combines their passion for playground equipment and the stage.
