‘ Physical Theatre for Digital Times’
What is reality? Is it real or just a digital simulation? And if this show is an illusion, who tells the audience?
Virtual Reality is the second show by Ukrainian mime quartet Dekru.
This performance explores "virtual reality" through three lenses: technological devices like smartphones, the pantomime’s ability to make the invisible visible, and the individual interpretations each audience member creates.
This humorous and dynamic show examines the relationship between the physical and digital worlds and the influence of modern media.
Through a sequence of scenes blending the everyday and the dreamlike, the mimes convey tangible and emotional details without words, props, or scenery. Their bodies transform, driven by their imagination, creating a visual spectacle filled with mobile phones, social networks, and lively characters.
Audience interaction is key, with spectators joining in games, becoming living statues, and participating in choreography. Directed by Liubov Cherepakhina of the Academy of Variety and Circus Arts in Kiev, Virtual Reality was developed during Dekru's time in Italy, amidst their homeland's circumstances.
Light Souls is a unique show of its kind: a physical theater performance that describes the present
that surrounds us in an acute and funny way.
Four figures dressed in black and painted white enter an empty stage. They fill it with only their bodies, creating from the most ordinary characters to the most imaginative situations.
In search of the unchanging silence of human being among the noise of modernities this overflows with delicacy and irony. They accompany spectators on a journey full of laughter in the comedy of life, between poetry and social satire.
A succession of short acts that form the portrait of contemporary man: tics, escapes into the imagination, courage, feelings, aspirations. Seamlessly appearing here before the eyes of the audience include a merry circus, a peaceful working day
disturbed by the blocking of an elevator, an Olympic competition, a series of sketches about everyday unexpected events in which everyone can recognize each other, a mysterious underwater world,
a dreamlike love story between living statues and much more.
